Beat The Heat

"Beat The Heat"
6 X 6
Oil on Hardboard

SOLD!

This tomato has beat the heat here in Central Illinois.  We have methodically watered what little bits of our garden we think we can save.  We were able to enjoy a few ears of sweet corn, some peppers and a few tomatoes.  I've noticed that the tomatoes have a tougher skin on them.  I'm sure they had to develop that in order to withstand the 100 degree plus heat that we have had.  Thankfully the forecast is for cooler temperatures this week.  It was a blessed 59 degrees when I got up this morning.  We are still praying for rain.  I have never seen it this dry in my whole life.

Speaking of dry, my painting has been in a slump for a few weeks.  I'm sure the heat has contributed to that. I just haven't felt like painting much.  But despite this I have done other art-related things like frame over 40 pieces for two shows coming up this fall.  It is amazing how continuing to paint week after week that the amount of art piles up.

I've also been reading some good books on art and art-related things.  "Starving to Success" by Jason Horenjs is a very nicely written concise book about marketing your art.  I picked up a lot of good tips in there.  The one I'm reading right now is "The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield.  It is about beating the "demons" that keep us from doing our passion.  One of those is being able to stand up to critics of our work (sometimes ourselves) and develop thick skins.  Just like the tomato I guess we have to develop a thick skin if we want to survive.

Here is how this painting might look framed.
