About 50% There

Little Women

I am still working away on this large portrait.  About 50% there I think.  It's one thing to paint and quite another to try and get a good likeness.  Whew, what a challenge!  I am determined to finish this for the grand opening of my new gallery Inside Out:  Accessible Art. (Please like their facebook page!)   Also I have already ordered the frame.  No stopping now!

One thing I am learning is that art that I find sophisticated looking has a secret ingredient...

whichever way you spell it.

I took a painting I like by John Pototschnik and used a color generator to see a color palette of what colors are in the painting.  I was quite amazed at how "grayed" down most of the colors were.

As I'm working on this painting, I am finding that in order to get the color right I have to add a lot of gray.  For those of you who are artists, I'm sure you already knew this secret.

Wish me luck in getting this one done!

On a side note:  I downloaded the free picture editing program GIMP.  It offers many more editing options that picassa.  I am really liking using it.

  1. It is so fun to see this wonderful painting developing. I love it! And the name you selected for it, too!

Thanks for sharing the GIMP information. I will be sure to check it out.

    Happy painting, Karla!

  2. WOW!!! Looks amazing , can't wait to see the finished piece!!
