Happy Easter!

"Happy Easter Card"
4 ¼ X 5
Watercolor on 140 lb watercolor paper

This was a challenge from my good friend Azra who lives across the big pond in the UK.  After she painted  this adorable ceramic chicken, she sent it to me and challenged me to use it in a painting.  You can see her painting here.

So here is my painting using the little chicken.  Since I was playing around with water colors I thought I would try them out on this challenge.  I am happy with the light bright effect I was able to get.  Quite a contrast to my usual oil paintings.

So now, I will choose someone to mail the little yellow chicken to so the challenge can continue down the road.  Who knows where this little hen will have traveled to by the end of the year?

Update:  Nancie of Art Is Not A Thing has agreed to paint the little yellow chicken next.  She lives on the east coast and does fabulous art.  So be sure to check out Nancie's blog to see her creation!

  1. I love this fresh and fun version of the yellow chicken!!! I will certainly be waiting for Nancie's painting, this is so exciting!

  2. Karla, your painting looks so alive with bright color! I'll be watching for the chicken in the mail. Looking forward to the challenge - now, I wonder what that little chicken will be up to here on the East Coast! Glad to be part of the "Traveling Chicken Challenge" - LOL!

  3. Karla, this is so fun! I love everything about it. Well done!
