Getting Artsy with the Residents - Again

We did a really fun project with the residents at the nursing home this past week.  I had a supply of birdhouse gourds that were just sitting around and after seeing this idea on Pinterest,  my sister Renee and I decided to use them for our art with the residents program.  We just used plain old acrylic paint.  But we did cover the residents clothing for protection.

We had a small group of residents, because of so much sickness this week, but we still had a lot of fun.  This is Mabel.  Can you believe she is 95 years old??!!  She was not too happy with me when I didn't spell her name right.  Sorry Mable  M-A-B-E-L  I am not a good speller.  In the background is Sharon who is the Activities Assistant.  She had fun painting one (or two)  also!

We made really simple scarves with yarn.  My yarn was so fluffy I just did a simple chain.  Renee crocheted hers.  She came up with the cute idea of using baby socks for their little hats. Of course we get most of our ideas from great projects that others have shared.   She just cut the little socks off  ( I think she ran a stitch around the cut edge to keep it from un-raveling) and added a cute little pom pom on top.  And yes, I looked it up, you can spell it pom pom or pom pon.  (wink wink).    That's Renee in the background.

Here is a picture of us when we were little

Renee is the cute one on the left.

Aren't They Cute?!

Here is a group of them all ready to head out to the main living room to decorate the mantle.  Aren't they cute?  Oh yes, and we used canning jar rings to hold them upright while they painted them.  And for display if they didn't sit on their own.

Pear Day 3

4" X 5"
oil on hardboard

Another pear painting for day 15 of the 30 in 30 challenge by Leslie Saeta.  I needed to take some "down" time from painting, so this one is a small one.  So many days in a row without a break is not good for my muse as they say.  I don't know if I could paint two quality paintings in one day so I can have a day off or not.  I may just have to limit myself to five paintings a week and call it at that.

  2. I agree with Azra; your pear is beautiful! And I love reading about you and your sister. Your project turned out so well and what fun!

Give yourself permission to take a day (or two) off. I'm planning to do that myself. Our goal is to paint more, and we are doing that. The rest is just icing on the cake. :)
