Blog Find of the Week

It is said that the best selling paintings are landscape paintings.  (sad face)  O.K. I am the first to admit that I am not good at landscapes.
.
But maybe there is hope!

I don't know how this slipped past me, but there is a webinar over at WetCanvas.  It is almost over now, but past webinar videos are available for about $2.50 / hour.  The course ran for 12 weekends with a 2 hour class on Saturday and a 2 hour class on Sunday.

The class handouts are also available here.  They in themselves are very good reading.

Here are a couple of the tips given.

  • Trees are often painted to garishly.  Paint trees the color of a green olive.
  • A good painting has a foreground, middle ground and background
  • It helps if there is a lead-in to the painting to help the viewer get into the picture
  • Only use values 2 (light) thru 7 (dark) in a landscape. Wow! Light bulb please.
This little sketch was my first attempt to apply some of the tips.  Hopefully after I digest all of the class info I can improve.

P.S.  The WetCanvas site is HUGE so take some time to look around if you haven't been there before.  If you ever feel discouraged about your painting or just want a good laugh, then check out this post over at WetCanvas Forum.  I laughed until my stomach hurt.

Have a great weekend!!
